Deal Of The Day: $295 Off On Dell Vostro 3550

By David Ponce

The prices, sometimes they fall. Other times, you get more for the same amount. That’s roughly what’s happening with today’s deal on the Dell Vostro 3550. While not as cheap as our previous mention of this laptop, you do get a decent amount of kit this time around. “The 15.6-inch Dell Vostro 3550 [comes with a] Core i7-2640M 2.8GHz Dual-core processor and 4GB RAM, 750GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader and 1GB Radeon HD 6630M graphics card. Usually you’d pay $1,144 for this configuration, but after a $295 slash, it’s only $849, shipped for free.

Deal Of The Day: $452 Off On HP ENVY 15

By David Ponce

We’ve been talking about HPs ENVY line of laptops for some time now. They’re nice and everything, but with the rise in popularity of Ultrabooks, the larger laptop form factor is having a harder and harder time justifying its own existence. It used to be that the ENVY line would command a premium, largely due on its being able to stand up to Apple’s Macbook Pro. But the MacBook Pro isn’t really the “it” computer anymore, and prices are starting to come down. $452 off the ENVY 15 will leave this laptop at $897. This gives you a Core i5 configuration with “1GB AMD 7690M graphics, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, an 8-cell battery, an HD webcam, 802.11n WiFi and more.”

Deal Of The Day: $157 Off On Dell XPS 15z

By David Ponce

So I’ve been playing with the Zenbook from Asus for the last two days. It’s gotten me looking at all the other laptops, wondering how they stack up against it. Dell’s XPS 15z is billed as an “ultra-thin” laptop, and while at 15.6 inches and with no SSD it’s not anywhere near as slicks as either the Zenbook or the MacBook Air, it’s not a bad offering at all. Considering that after today’s $157 rebate you have to pay $942 for a fair amount of kit, it’s also not a bad deal. So what does nearly $1K give you? “Core i5 2.4GHz processor, 300-nit FHD (1080p) WLED Display, 6GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, 1GB GeForce GT 525M, Backlit Keyboard, 8-cell Li-ion battery, and more.”

Deal Of The Day: $257 Off On Dell XPS 14z

By David Ponce

While this laptop clearly wouldn’t qualify as an Ultrabook at nearly 1 inch thick (0.9in.), it’s still fairly thin and packs and packs a decent punch for the price. “This base configuration also includes 6GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, 58 WHr 8-Cell Battery, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. At 0.9″ thin and less than 2kg starting weight, XPS 14z sports 1GB GeForce GT520M graphics, 1366×768 WLED display, HDMI v1.4 port, miniDisplayPort, one USB 3.0 port and more.” Usually selling for $999, today’s deal has it sitting at a very affordable $743.

Deal Of The Day: $200 Off On HP Folio 13

By David Ponce

So I’m currently on the market for an Ultrabook. Let’s face it, Apple started the trend with the Macbook Air… but it’s far from being the only kid on the block. I’m currently enamored with the Asus Zenbook, but it turns out that today’s deal might turn some heads. The HP Folio 13 is PC Mag’s Editor’s Choice in the category. It’s not the best in any one feature, but it’s good at everything, which puts it a step above the competition, all of which is flawed in some way or other. At considering with today’s $200 price slash, the Folio falls to $849, it becomes a no-brainer. “This Ultrabook weighs 3.3 lb. and 18 mm thick. Also features ultra-slim 13.3″ LED display, up to 9.25 hours battery life, 128GB SSD, HD webcam, multi-gesture touchpad, USB 3.0 ports, CoolSense technology, Dolby Advanced Audio, Full-size backlit keyboard, HDMI, 2-in-1 card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and more.”

Deal Of The Day: $30 Off On Rocksmith On The PS3

By David Ponce

Some of you may remember that I picked up guitar a few months ago. I started right off with Rocksmith and can say that if you want to get yourself playing some music right away, it’s a great way to do it. Sure, you won’t get much by way of fundamentals and playing things like this for a long period of time might make things worse in the long run by making you sidestep elemental music theory. But then again, The Beatles couldn’t even read sheet music, so maybe you don’t need it. What’s certain is that the game does get you running your fingers up and down the fretboard and makes you more comfortable around a guitar quickly.

Usually it’s $80 but with today’s deal, the PS3 version sees a $30 slash.

Deal Of The Day: $430 Off On Alienware Aurora

By David Ponce

When we saw the HD preview footage of Battlefield 3, we got excited: graphics looked amazing. But when we played the console version, we cried gamer’s tears: it was nothing like the previews. No doubt these had been generated on a PC rather than on a console and the difference highlights just how much processing power can be crammed into a desktop computer. The liquid-cooled Alienware Aurora is a serious rig, sporting a 2nd Gen Core i7 3.4GHz Quad-core processor as well as dual GeForce GT 545 cards in SLI configuration. Coming in the smaller MicroATCX form factor, the Aurora also runs 8GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, DVD burner and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. Sure, there are machines with more more power around, but for $1,199 after a $430 slash, it’s not a bad deal.
